Ways of Giving
Philanthropy Overview:
Philanthropy at MedStar Harbor Hospital plays a vital role in ensuring MedStar Harbor's patient-centered mission will flourish. Philanthropy supports the Mission Fund - the annual fund that is 100 percent invested back into MedStar Harbor's mission of quality, caring and service. Philanthropic support also plays a role in facility upgrades, the latest in medical services and treatments, technological advances, and community programs that prevent illness while bringing more treatment to those who need it.
Mission Fund
This year's Mission Fund supports the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
With your support, MedStar Harbor Hospital will be able to purchase significant items such as bariatric stretcher chairs that will assist with mobility of bariatric patients; total care sports beds that will offer continuous lateral rotation therapy, which prevents ventilator-acquired pneumonia; and patient recliners to help with mobility.
All of these items make a significant difference in the quality of care we provide to our patients.

MedStar Harbor Hospital Chapel
Chapel plaques are made and ordered in memory of a friend or loved one and are placed inside our beautiful Chapel. They come in three standard sizes of small ($50 donation), medium ($75) and large ($100). All gifts should include complete addresses of both the donor, as well as the loved one or next of kin of the person being memorialized, so that they may receive appropriate acknowledgement of the gift. To order a Chapel plaque to remember a loved one, please call the Philanthropy Department at 410-350-8271.
Memorial/Honor Gifts
Honor gifts are made to celebrate milestones, such as a birth, marriage or special anniversary. Memorial gifts are made in memory of a friend or loved one. All gifts should include complete addresses of both the donor, as well as the honoree or next of kin of the person being memorialized, so that they may receive appropriate acknowledgement of the gift.
Planned Gifts and Estate Planning
Deferred giving enables a donor to maximize the beneficial impact to MedStar Harbor Hospital and minimize or eliminate the capital gains and/or federal estate taxes on assets. Examples of planned gifts include stocks, bonds, life insurance policies, retirement plans (IRAs), and charitable remained trusts, gift annuities, endowments and bequests. Donation can take many forms - you may wish to consult with your accountant or tax attorney as you explore these opportunities.
