Nurse Navigator
Nurse Navigators are patient educators, advocates, and care coordinators on a mission to improve the experience of every patient. The Nurse Navigator serves as a support system for the patient and his or her family at a critical time and serves as a "gateway" to MedStar Harbor Hospital. Three Nurse Navigators are needed.

The Needy Sick Fund
The Needy Sick Fund assists patients who have difficulty paying for inpatient or outpatient care at MedStar Harbor Hospital. The physician of a patient receiving help from the Needy Sick Fund agrees to waive any part of his or her fee not covered by insurance. Needy Sick funds are earmarked for the patient's hospital expenses and critical supplies or services.

Transportation Fund
The Transportation Fund is set up for patients who live in the community, access care at MedStar Harbor and are unable to secure transportation to return home following their care experience.

Blanket Warmers for Patient Care Areas
A warmed blanket is no longer considered just a comfort item for the surgical patient; it is also an important modality in maintaining a surgical patient in a normal body temperature state. Maintaining normal body temperature in a surgical patient from the time of admission into the preoperative holding area, through surgery, to discharge from the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) results in faster recovery and discharge, lower infection rates, reduced hospital costs, better thermal comfort, and increased patient satisfaction.
